King Henrys Spouses Henry VIII, king of England, was famously married six times and played a critical role in the English Reformation, turning his country into a Protestant nation. Henry Tudor, son of Henry VII of England and Elizabeth York, was born at the royal residence, Greenwich Palace, on June 28, 1491. Following the death of his brother, Arthur, he became Henry VIII, king of England. He married six times, beheaded two of his wives and was the main instigator of the English Reformation. His only surviving son, Edward VI, succeeded him after his death on January 28, 1547. The reason why King Henry had so many wives was because he had the first wife due to the fact he was dethroned to her by his father. The second wife was due to the simple fact that he fell in love with her and all needed a legitimate male heir to the throne. The third wife was because he still needed a male heir. The fourth wife came due to his diplomatic reasons. The fifth wife was because he fell in love to fast again. His sixth and final wife was because he had grown to be too old, and sick and he decided he needed a companion and nurse who wouldn’t give him too much trouble. His insecurities led to the treatment of those nearest and sometimes dearest to him by sentencing them to die. He ordered the killing of his two wives and he cruelly abandoned one, he was absent when one died, he divorced another and probably only his death most likely prevented the arrest of the final one.
